It was an incredible opportunity to reconnect with key developments shaping the #2025CitrusSeason while engaging with industry experts, farmers, packhouse teams, suppliers, and service providers who are all committed to driving excellence in citrus production and post-harvest management.
The turnout was impressive, with #CitrusFarmers and packhouse staff attending in large numbers, eager to gain insights that will help improve fruit quality, shelf life, compliance, and operational efficiency. The workshop also showcased strong support from leading industry suppliers and service providers such as Citrosol, Mpact Packaging , QMS FoodTech, Remoon South Africa, and ICA International Chemicals. Their presence highlighted the importance of partnerships in strengthening the citrus value chain.
One of the highlights of the workshop was reconnecting with some of Skimpo Agribusiness Solutions’ valued clients while also meeting prospective clients who are passionate about advancing quality and compliance standards in the citrus industry. These engagements reinforced the importance of collaboration and continuous improvement within the sector.
The presentations delivered throughout the workshop were both insightful and practical. CITROSOL shared valuable information on how continuous innovation in their product solutions helps maintain fruit freshness and improve post-harvest performance. Their presentation demonstrated how technology and research continue to play a critical role in preserving fruit quality throughout the supply chain.
Another impactful presentation came from Lindokuhle Mamba, who unpacked the often-overlooked impact of dust contamination on citrus fruit quality. His discussion highlighted how small operational details can significantly affect marketability, food safety, and customer satisfaction.
Jan Landman delivered what many attendees described as a “mind-blowing” session on the handling and maintenance of wax brushes, humorously titled “The Hairy Truth.” His presentation emphasized the importance of proper equipment management in achieving consistent fruit quality and reducing contamination risks in packhouses.
Natasha Jackson also left a lasting impression with her passionate and informative presentation on fruit shelf life. Her insights provided practical guidance on preserving freshness and maximizing product quality from farm to consumer.
In addition, Steephan van den Berg from shared valuable updates and insights regarding the completion of the phytosanitary system. This discussion highlighted the increasing importance of compliance, traceability, and export readiness in maintaining South Africa’s competitiveness in global citrus markets.
